From needing an emergency wedding gift, to finding a Valentines treat, The Conran shop gets my vote every time.
This spring, The Conran Shop presents Espírito do Brasil – a covetable and unique edit inspired by Brazil and its architecture, design, landscape, culture and lifestyle, from the mid-twentieth century to present day. The edit features furniture and lifestyle accessories, bringing together iconic designs, new and emerging talent as well as vintage pieces, all of which capture the spirit and imagination of Brazil.
The Espírito do Brasil – or Spirit of Brazil – collection will travel through Brazil along the coastline, from the south to the north. The design narrative begins in the countryside of São Paulo, where classic and modern designs with an architectural sensibility have been curated to illustrate elegant Apartamento Conceito (or Apartment Concept). In late spring, The Conran Shop turns to the verdant landscapes of the Espírito Santo state for al fresco dining and entertainment in the hills, combining natural materials, rustic textures and recycled crafted sculptures. In high summer The Conran Shop arrives in Trancoso, the shing village on Brazil’s Bahia coast; its playful beach spirit and laid- back marina lifestyle is brought to life by mixing vintage pieces, outdoor furniture, food and drink in a lively and picturesque setting.
Launching with Apartment Conceito as the first phase of Espírito do Brasil, The Conran Shop’s room settings are created in spacious, open- plan apartments furnished with classic designs combined with sculptural objects. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow for views over the living wall of banana trees and fern plants by Arnott & Mason, which conjures up visions of the rainforest and is reminiscent of Lina Bo Bardi’s renowned Casa de Vidro (Glass House).
Solid walnut Bossa side chairs with rattan lattice backrests, handcrafted in Brazil by Almeida and exclusive to The Conran Shop.
Head to my favourite destination at London’s Brompton Cross to see the displays.
The Conran Shop currently has ten stores across the world, three in London, one in Paris and six in Japan.
