Swarovski Designers of the Future, Krafft Hotel Design Miami 2016, Basel

Design/Miami is the global forum for design. Presented at the same time as Art Basel, Switzerland in June and in Miami, USA in December. The biannual event offers the most sought-after design pieces of the 19th, 20th and 21st Century. I have actual palpitations when I’m there. Think 1st Dibs in real life, with access to the world’s leading design galleries presenting curated exhibitions of museum-quality furniture, lighting and objects, all for sale.

Swarovski, the main sponsor of Design/Miami presents their prestigious ‘Designers of the Future Award’ during this week in June, honouring promising young designers who exemplify new directions in design culture. The award allows three next-generation design talents to present newly commissioned work in an exhibtion during Design/Miami following a research trip to the Swarovski HQ in Wattens, Austria.

I was invited to fly over and join the Swarovski team to meet the designers, and visit the Swarovski installations at Design/Miami. The Swarovski dinner held at the Krafft Hotel, Basel was the perfect opportunity for fellow journalists, gallerists and curators to hear from the award judges including Director of the Design Museum London, Deyan Sudjic and President & co-founder of Design/Miami Craig Robbins.
