One Night At The James Hotel, New York
I’m off to New York on Wednesday, & I’m spending the weekend creating my itinerary for my stay. I’ve been looking through my photos from my trip last year (a fly by NYC/LA research trip) where I was in the city for some serious hotel research. One of my favourite & quietest hotels is here, The James, on 27 Grand St. With the most discreet entrance you are taken straight up in the lift into this amazing space full of Lindsey Adelman lighting & Brazilian designer, Sergio Rodrigues’ furniture. I just wanted to share some images with you of my stay there last year. The Hotel opened in September, 2010 with 114 guest rooms and suites, & a Penthouse Loft designed by Piet Boon, boasting incredible unobstructed views of Manhattan.
The hotel was designed by the Office For Design And Architecture (ODA) in collaboration with Perkins Eastman and with interior decoration by Amanda Sullivan of The James Design team. The hotel features a David Burke restaurant, and a gym with views for miles. For the Sky Lobby, where you arrive into the hotel, and where you can relax on a Sergio Rodrigues Kilin armchair The James tapped interiors and furnishings curator Cristina Grajales, whose residential work includes the homes of Brad Pitt and fashion designer Helmut Lang, to act as a furnishings curator. She handpicked the textiles and lighting elements of the hotel’s Sky Lobby to enhance the warm and welcoming ambiance. If you don’t get to stay the night, then get there for a cocktail in the rooftop bar Jimmy’s designed by Thomas Schlesser, I only wish it hadn’t have been so cold otherwise I would have been straight in that rooftop pool!
