Le Germain, Paris

Le Germain, Paris

Le Germain, part of the Costes family restaurant group opened in 2009, but to this day looks perfectly modern. Located in Saint Germain des-Prés, on the Left Bank & designed by Iranian born India Mahdavi you will find the café/restaurant on the ground floor, a private cinema in the basement & a more relaxed VIP floor upstairs. It’s one of my favourite places to go & sit when I’m on my own in Paris. The café offers a simple and classic French menu, and has been filled with Mahdavi’s signature style, using her own line of furniture, Thonet dining chairs and Neisha Crosland fabrics. The VIP floor upstairs (which you rent out privately) features a pool table, elegant seating, and a striking piece of work by Xavier Veilhan, Sophie (the giant yellow doll), which breaks through the ceiling and down into the floor below. The private cinema in the basement, Germain Paradisio, features a jungle like palette of peacock blues, greens, browns and bronze detailing, this is an modern underground paradise. They make a mean Bloody Mary too!

Some of my favourite pieces of design are in this space, from the wooden Karaba floor light in the image above, and the Icelandic Poppies fabric by GP&J Baker on the sofa.

These India Mahdavi designed Julia Marie dining chairs can be spotted in some of Mahdavi’s most iconic projects, the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel, & my personal favourite Hotel Thoumieux in Paris.

These Bishop Bar stools were conceived following the development of Mahdavi’s ceramic Bishop Stools. These bar stools can be spotted in the Condesa DF, Mexico, Belgraves & The Connaught in London.
