It’s About Time >>> The Ivy Chelsea Garden, Kings Road, London
The Ivy Chelsea Garden has just opened on the site of the old Henry J Beans on London’s Kings Road. A casual British restaurant brought to you by the Caprice Holdings Group, is now serving an extensive all-day menu of food and cocktails. Finally somewhere Wolseley/Electric in vibe for those of us on this side of town.
‘The restaurant, bar and café inside have an aura of approachable sophistication and familiar luxury; outside is an extensive garden, complete with a terrace and orangery.’
A Grade II-listed building on the King’s Road dates back from the 18th century and following it’s complete renovation from the former home of Henry J Beans, you’ll now find yourself in a suitably glamorous setting without having to traipse up to the Wolseley.
The Ivy Chelsea Garden’s marble and parquet interiors are the work of Martin Brudnizki, designer of the Holborn Dining Room, Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood Hotel London, Hartnett Holder & Co at Lime Wood Hotel, and Soho Beach House in Miami to name a few.
I visited with friends from Paris for dinner this week, and enjoyed their signature dishes of classic British fair, Prawn Cocktail and Shepherd’s Pie. With many tables reserved for walk-ins you’re far more likely to get a table that way. So concerned was I that we’d be seated if we made it from Soho to the restaurant that I went through about 5 members of staff after calling at 6pm to ensure we could make a reservation. The team were charming, and we were offered a wonderful table in the Orangery area of the restaurant.
The beautiful expansive garden with 120 covers was designed by Ginkgo Gardens, and certainly it will be packed for every weekend until the summer ends this year.
