Artist Chen Man Partners with The Peninsula Hotels
This October, The Peninsula Hotels invited guests to interact with a global art installation by visionary artist Chen Man, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Annual ‘Peninsula in Pink’ campaign, now in it’s sixth year champions the fight against breast cancer and providing much needed care for patients.
For the second year the ‘Art of Pink’ theme sees the hotels partnering with artists who share, through specially commissioned work, their point on the view of breast cancer. This year, the hotels collaborated with China’s most celebrated avant-garde photographer and multimedia artist, Chen Man.
The artist is presenting “Nao Nao”, an exclusively commissioned series of pieces that were installed in ten Peninsula destinations. The collection draws the sensual photographs that have cemented Chen Man’s style and success.
Each photograph has been covered by two pink dots – the symbols of breasts. In a nod to The Peninsula Hotels’ focus on China this year, visitors use a traditional “Nao Nao” bamboo stick to scrape away the dots over the month and unveil the image behind.
“With this collection, I wished to celebrate distinctive interpretations of beauty and power, while at the same time evoking dialogue about a subject that is often deemed taboo.” Chen Man
The hotel also unveiled it’s pink themed afternoon tea which is to be enjoyed throughout October at The Peninsula Hotels worldwide. Served in the grand hotel lobby of the Peninsula Paris I enjoyed an afternoon of alluring pink-hued pastries, finger sandwiches and sweet treats on the signature three-tiered silver stand.
November update – I returned to the hotel at the beginning of November to see the final artwork unveiled. All the pieces were listed on the online auction site Paddle8. Bidding closed at the end of the month, but the pieces will remain on display at this time.
The creative theming of the annual campaign has continued to grow from strength to strength. In its first five years the Peninsula in Pink campaign has raised over 833,515 USD. For further information on the initiative click here.
