Bacon Butties at Albion, London, E2
London is one of those blissful cities that is never short of a breakfast destination. From Balthazar in Covent Garden, Nopi tucked away behind Regent Street, or The Breakfast Club on Battersea Rise, Londoners love a good fry-up. The French culture is to take a café & croissant at the standing bar in a local coffee shop before heading to work, the American’s brought us the chain coffee shop, so for all those weekdays when we’ve no time for even a bowl of cereal, we shall always have time for a pitstop at Starbucks. It the culture of weekend brunching, is worldwide. Friends, lovers, and families will always have time for each other when it comes to brunch.
London is one of my favourite cities for this, and if you find yourself over in East London, look no further than the Albion Café on Boundary Street, E2. Think bacon butties, marmite toast, kippers & sausage sandwiches. Part caff, part shop, with an in-house bakery, Albion can found in this Conran&Prescott owned building with The Boundary Hotel occupying the upper floors, with a rooftop bar and grill. The ever expanding sky line of Shoreditch and the financial district provide fascinating views along the rooftops of this hub of London, a hive of activity day and night.
Albion features large communal tables, for maximum Sunday paper sharing…

If you happen to visit Albion on a Sunday morning, you picked the best day. Stroll over to Columbia Road, for the most beautiful flower market. Expect to be squashed in like sardines but stick to the edges and you can take in all the sights and sounds from the local tradesman. Take cash, there are so many bargains it’s impossible to walk away without at least a little treat for yourself.
Albion Cafés open a second outpost on London’s bankside on Monday 8th July 2013.
