LWSY Book of the Month // Canada Goose Greatness Is Out There by Assouline
I love to discover new books, so last week when I was on my weekly scour of the Assouline website I saw Canada Goose had just released their 60th Anniversary publication, ‘Greatness Is Out There’. An hour later, as if by absolute magic, my door bell rings and a charming courier is handing me a copy of this giant new glossy hardback.
Think 204 pages of frosty vistas, interviews and case studies, over 250 illustrations, the book celebrates sixty years of a Made in Canada success story. Canada Goose is a brand that defies genres, the brand began by creating functional, quality outerwear for the Police and Military forces. Now the brand is the single go-to parka for Hollywood film crews, polar explorers, city dwellers facing plummeting winter temperatures, fashionistas and of course, adventurers.

The brand was started back in 1957 by Sam Tick in a small Toronto warehouse as Metro Sportswear Ltd. His grandson, Dani Reiss continues the family brand pushing the label into new genres of fashion, art, and design.
“Companies of the world have to be good for the world too…” Dani Reiss, President & CEO
“We also believe in making a positive impact for our communities and for the world. We don’t just keep people warm in the coldest places on Earth, but we build bridges with Northern Canada through our Resource Centres programme, and we are deeply connected to Polar Bear International, which through research and education, hopes to save the polar bear, the great icon of the North.” Dani Reiss.
“A lot of people don’t realise that our round disc on the sleeve is actually a map of the Arctic in reverse, land and sea are inverted. The disk stands for our connection to the North. Once you understand this the patch takes on far more significance.”
Kevin Spreekmeester, Chief Brand Officer, Canada Goose
