Design/Miami 2016, Basel Switzerland
Design Miami/ is the global forum for the best design in the world. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. Occurring alongside the Art Basel fair each June (and also every December in Miami), Design Miami/ has become the premier venue for collecting, exhibiting, discussing and creating collectible design.
I hopped over to Basel, Switzerland for 24 hours of intense lusting, leaving with the realisation that i’m going to have to play the lottery weekly in order to ever begin to imagine buying some of these incredible pieces.
The Patrick Parrish Gallery presented some of the most sought after 40’s to 60s design, specialising in lighting and chairs.
More than just a marketplace for design, this is where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting and objets d’art. Only at Design Miami/ will you see collections like this under one roof.
Galerie Vivid from Rotterdam presented my stand out piece, 3d printed clay vases. Each show balances exclusive commercial opportunities. This new artist was given the opportunity to present his creations to a worldwide audience thanks to the creative eye of the gallery owners who discovered him.
The week also offers progressive cultural programming including the Swarovski Designers of the Future exhibition above (link in credits). New exiting collaborations are created between designers and design institutions, panels and lectures by leading influencers of design, architecture, art and fashion. Here’s to getting to Miami for the December show.
